Dry & Dehydrated Skin

Dry skin is a skin condition where your skin is lacking water. It can be dryitchy and even dull looking. Due to the lack of water in your skin, your complexion may appear grey, ashy, uneven and cause your face to feel tight.

Dry skin occurs when the skin is unable to retain sufficient moisture in the skin cells. Another way that your skin is dehydrated is due to your skin condition. There are generally 4 types – oily skin, dry skin, combination skin and normal skin. This is usually for more cosmetic purposes to choose suitable skincare and makeup products for the skin.

Having dry skin is a skin type with visible symptoms. You will know your skin is dehydrated when you have a dull complexion, close to invisible pores, red patches and less elastic skin. They can be further emphasised with environmental and lifestyle factors such as genes, exposure to Ultraviolet (UV) radiation, long and hot showers, the use of harsh soaps or certain medical conditions. It is also common to have dry and dehydrated skin in colder climates due to cold, dry air.

In general, experiencing dry skin conditions should not be anything alarming. However, if not managed well, it may lead to other severe skin disorders like eczema and peeling skin. These conditions also speed up the signs of ageing, causing fine lines and wrinkles to appear sooner than expected and more noticeable.

It is inexpensive and easy to fix your dry skin. With the use of skin and face moisturisers, the top layer of skin cells can absorb and seal in the moisture, increasing the water content in the cells, resulting in hydrated skin. One extremely good product is hyaluronic acid. They treat dehydrated skin conditions by allowing the cells to increase hydration. This leaves your skin feeling plump and water-rich.
