Fine lines & Wrinkles

Fine lines and wrinkles are typical signs of ageing where there are creases in the skin, particularly on your face. They usually appear around the eye area (also known as crow’s feet), jowls and forehead area

There are many reasons that add to skin ageing. They usually develop due to age, excessive sun exposure or unhealthy lifestyle choices like smoking.

As we age, the skin loses its elastin and collagen, reducing its ability to hold and absorb moisture. With the lack of water, the skin becomes more vulnerable to gravity, causing wrinkles, sags and lines. Excessive sunlight equates to the increase in exposure to ultraviolet radiation (UV light). This is because UV rays break down the skin’s connective tissues like collagen and elastin fibres, adding to the wrinkling appearance.

Smoking, too, accelerates the process of ageing on your skin, contributing to wrinkles. This is because cigarettes contain over 4000 harmful chemicals that reduce oxygen reaching each skin cell, decreasing blood circulation. These chemicals also trigger the destruction of collagen and elastin in the skin. By now, we know how important collagen is contributing to youthful skin.

The appearance of lines and wrinkles make you appear tired and matured. They also deepen with regular repeated facial expressions like smiling and frowning over the years. What you can do the reduce wrinkles and fine lines are taken care of your skin. Have a good skincare routine that involves putting eye cream and sun protection no matter where you go. A good item to have in your routine is hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid encourages healthier, more supple skin which also works to promote anti-ageing and anti-wrinkle skin.

Sun damage is the easiest way to cause fine lines and wrinkles. Therefore, it is crucial to reduce the amount of sun exposure to reduce the chances of absorbing UV light and protect your skin.  These are some ways you can combat and prevent wrinkles and fine lines.

One preventive way is to include applying anti-ageing products such as night cream, wrinkle cream and wearing sunscreen in your skincare routine. This is a good preventative measure to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines on the face in the future. However, if you are looking for a medical solution to your worries, fret not!
